Mathematics

Room 7 is learning about different strategies for working out multiplication problems such as arrays, repeated addition and repeated subtraction.
Another way we can remember our times tables is to practice reading them.
We have made our own bookmarks and we work with a buddy to test each other.

Watch these videos to learn more about division and how it works.

We have continued to practice our multiplication facts by learning about different ways to solve multiplication problems. We are learning to use arrays, repeated addition, and our basic facts knowledge to solve different maths word problems.  Below, you will see how we used different strategies to solve the word problem.
We are focusing on not only the answer we get but what we did to get the answer. We need to be able to show how we worked out the problem because this helps us to understand and solve the problem better. Lately we have been watching these videos to help us to learn our times tables. Our goal is to be able to recall times tables facts quickly. For Weeks 1 and 2 we have been learning about and exploring time. We have learned why we use time and how. Now we are looking at how we can tell the time. We watched a few videos this morning and decided that the "Hip Hop Around the Clock" was the most enjoyable! Please enjoy the video. Post your comments below, what do you know about time? What have you learned so far? What questions do you have? This week Room 7 has been learning about fractions. So far we have looked at the difference between a part and a whole. We have talked about this in groups so that we can deepen our understanding of Part-Whole to help us understand how fractions actually work. Please enjoy the video below that tells you about the different parts to a fraction. Today we worked in small groups using manipulative's like tens and ones blocks to help us solve double digit addition problems. We used our knowledge of tens and ones to help us regroup the ones and tens to find the answer. Please watch the videos below that show you how it is done. We have been busy learning about place value. Today we listened to two songs to help us remember the different place values. It helps to remind us which place is a one, ten, or hundred. Take a listen and enjoy!

Room 7 is exploring the world of 3D and 2D shapes. We have been learning how to make shapes using play dough and geoboards.
Room 7 is exploring fractions and ratios this term.
We have been learning about different fractions and how to identify a fraction of a shape, set, or number.
Check out this song which helps you remember the difference between a numerator and a denominator.
The video below tells us why we use fractions. Why do we need fractions? After watching the video's, can you think of reasons why we need to learn about fractions? Post your comments.

    1. Hi Nicole, You are on Stage 5 which means you are using early additive-partwhole thinking but to move to stage 6 you need advanced additive-early multiplicative partwhole thinking. This means that you need to work on your multiplication and your fractions too. I hope this answers you question.
